hamilton

So a couple months ago my husband and I finally moved to Baton Rouge, LA, where he had promised me that when we moved we'd get a place where I could have a cat. I've grown up with animals all around since I was 5 so not having any around was killing me! I fell in love with one cat at the pet store but unfortunately someone got him before I could. I was devastated. So my family convinced me to go check out the pound to see what cats they had but I was convinced that that other cat was my perfect cat and I had missed out. Back then: When we walked in the door there were two cats in a cage together, one meowing his lungs out and reaching through the door to catch people as they walked by, the other quietly sitting toward the back of the cage, just sadly watching everything go on around him. The ladies working there told us that if those two didn't get adopted in the next couple days, they were going to be put down. I didn't know what it was about that big fluffy orange cat just sitting there that drew my attention but I asked to hold him. He just sat there for over an hour while I held him while all this crazy stuff was going on all around us: dogs barking, cats crying, kids screaming. But he didn't care. He just snuggled up in my arms or climbed up on my shoulders calmly watching. I tried holding other cats but I just kept coming back to this big baby. That's when I knew that he was the cuddle buddy of a cat I needed. My husband finally gave in and let me go ahead and get him even though we hadn't moved yet. Hamilton stayed with my parents until we were ready to drive down so we got him to a vet to get his... well... manly things taken care of... His fur was so matted down to his skin that he had to be shaved to start over. We had thought that Hamilton was an older cat, a few years old or so, but when he got used to people and the rules of the house, he came out of his shell and we realized he was more like 9 months to a year old. He became playful and energetic and everyone grew to love him (even my husband who used to call Hamilton "your cat"). Now: Now Hamilton is enjoying his new home in Baton Rouge (and not having to share it with other cats). His hair is always growing back more and more. When I got back from a month long business trip I could really see how his hair had grown and how handsome he's been becoming. So I couldn't help but take a break from work editing and taking some pictures of my baby. Such a pretty baby :-D
